Women's Caucus trustee Miriam Wallace has joined co-editor Kate Parker on the timely and immediately relevant collection, Teaching the Eighteenth Century Now: Pedagogy as Ethical Engagement. Many of the contributors are Caucus members, including Tiffany Potter, Ziona Kocher, Teri Doerksen, Emily C. Casey and Eugenia Zuroski.
In this volume, "teacher-scholars of the 'long eighteenth century,' a Eurocentric time frame from about 1660 to 1832, consider what teaching means in this historical moment: one of the attacks, on education, a global contagion, and a reckoning with centuries of trauma experiences by Black, Indigenous, and immigrant peoples." The classroom is a space of emotional and intellectual labor connecting learners and educators through texts and cultural materials. It is this space and the ethical responsibilities we as educators have that and serve as the focifor this important collection.
